[EVENT] Tour of Margaret River | The Final Lap

For 16 years, the Tour of Margaret River has been a cornerstone of the West Australian cycling calendar, an annual pilgrimage that also draws riders from across the country and abroad. It’s the kind of weekend that cyclists lock into their calendars as soon as the dates drop; for some, it’s the one event they train for all year.

For those unfamiliar, the Tour of Margaret River (or ToMR, as it’s affectionately known) is one of Australia’s largest team-based cycling events. Spanning three stages over three days in early November, it takes place in the heart of Western Australia’s world-renowned wine region (about three hours south of Perth).

It all began in 2009 when Margaret River farmer and keen amateur cyclist Brendon Morrison decided to host a small local race. Thirty riders. Five teams. A simple idea, but one that struck a chord. The format proved an instant success, and word spread fast.

With the addition of Rebecca Cotton, Cycling Eventures was born, a name now synonymous with iconic WA events such as Lighthouse to Lighthouse, Delirium 24 Hour Race, DIRT, SEVEN, and the Tour of WA. Looking ahead, Cycling Eventures will take centre stage again in 2026 when Nannup hosts the UCI Gravel World Championships. Rumour has it there’s also a new seven-day gravel race in the works leading into the Worlds (watch this space).

[The Format]

Stage 1: Grand Pursuit
Friday, October 31 – Donnybrook
52 km | 780 vm
(used for team gradings)

Stage 2: Road Race
Saturday, November 1 – Balingup > Nannup > Greenbushes
91 km | 1627 vm

Stage 3: Grand Pursuit
Sunday, November 2 – Margaret River Chocolate Factory
62 km | 420 vm

Teams of six riders accumulate points across each stage in three key categories: General Classification (top 4 riders), Sprint (top 2), and KOM/QOM (top 2). After Stage 1, teams are placed into divisions based on performance. This year’s ToMR saw 81 teams across eight Open divisions and 14 women’s teams across two divisions, all racing over three days for divisional honours.

[Søciety x Tour of Margaret River]

With 2025 marking the final edition of ToMR, it was always destined to be a special one. We were stoked to receive a call from Brendon and Rebecca inviting Søciety to be the official apparel partner for the event, designing and producing the iconic yellow, green, and polka dot jerseys awarded to each age-category winner.

Rather than reinvent an iconic design, we added subtle touches that paid homage to the beautiful region we’d be racing through, a celebration of place, community, and legacy.

This year we entered three Søciety teams, which after grading found themselves in Divisions C, F, and G. The competition was fierce as always, featuring a stacked field that included professional riders such as Brady Gilmore (Israel Premier Tech), Mackenzie Coupland (Liv AlUla Jayco), Seth Dunwoody (Bahrain Victorious Development Team), Adam Rafferty (Hagens Berman Jayco), Lucie Fitus (St Michel - Preference Home - Auber93), and Harry Speak (Cannibal–Victorious U19 Development Team), alongside plenty of WA’s strongest local riders.

[Results and Reflections]

After three days of tough racing and mixed conditions, we were ecstatic to see a Søciety team crowned C-Division champions, and rising talent Elliot Wardle take out the C-Division Stage 2 Road Race.

The final presentations took place on the lawns of Shelter Brewing Co overlooking the stunning Busselton foreshore. The sun was shining, the Indian Ocean sparkled in the background, the vibes were high, and the beers were flowing, it was the perfect setting to close out 16 incredible years of ToMR.

It was a bittersweet farewell for an event that’s continually evolved, grown in scale, and brought together countless riders, volunteers, and supporters. For us, it was an honour to be part of its' final chapter, and to serve as the last-ever official apparel supplier for the Tour of Margaret River.

[Thank You]

To the teams who claimed divisional victories, to age-group champions who wore the GC, Sprint, or KOM/QOM jerseys, and to every rider who fronted up at the start line and persevered until the finish... congratulations!

And to Brendon, Rebecca, and the Cycling Eventures crew, the volunteers, supporters, and team managers who made it all possible — thank you for 16 years of unforgettable memories, friendships, and racing.

The 2025 Tour of Margaret River was proudly supported by Shelter Brewing Co, Talison Lithium, and the Margaret River Chocolate Factory.
